The VisualML platform of XML tools for publishers is a creation, curation, collaboration, and production platform of intuitive, workflow controlled systems built upon a central content repository for realizing XML efficiencies in the publishing value chain as illustrated in the image below:
Each of the systems (around the periphery of the red arrow) are built upon the powerful, popular, open source content management system, Drupal. This enables them to be cost-effectively rolled out for each operational team within a publishing house. - configured precisely for how that team prefers to work. The systems revolve around a Central Content Repository of XML and rich media. As further discussed below:
Central Content Repository
The core of the VisualML platform, the Central Content Repository stores all XML in MarkLogic Server - the gold standard for XML housing and operational agility. The Repository includes either a secure file system or DAM to store rich media. All XML operations tracked for revision control. Acquisition and Curation
Begins immediately after an abstract is accepted. Authors are assigned to Documents and guided through an intuitive interface to capture their unstructured content - from Word, LaTex, etc. All complex constructs, such as images, videos, tables, equations and sidebars are captured and stored in structured XML in the Central Repository. Peer & Editor Collaboration
After the Author submits content, an innovative, dual-window interface is used by peers and publishing editors to review, collaborate and edit the content. Edit, preview, comment and advance documents through the fully-customizable workflow with full revision tracking and control. Completed content is marked for production. More
ePub Production System
Completed works or documents are selected and flowed through a highly configurable, extensible template that controls style and layout. The raw resulting ePub is Sculpted with a graphic interface that applies the human art of publishing to complete the ePubmatching the publisher's brand. Completed works or documents are selected and flowed through a template controlling style, left and right page margins, headers and footers, and layout. Custom Publishing Engine
A specialized website that enables users/subscribers to create their own works through permission controlled discovery of the publisher's corpus of documents in the Central Content Repository. Straight forward cover-creator. Output to PDF for print/POD orePub for digital fulfillment. More
